Ready for the water: a skin qayaq takes shape

Qayaq builder Kiliii Yuyan met many challenges while building this watercraft, one of which included receiving the wrong kind of sealskin. But within days festival organizers had sourced caribou hides, and Kiliii didn’t let this change slow him down. With the assistance of Addie Asbridge and many other helpers, he framed and then sewed a handsome skin qayaq. Here’s a look at their progress this week.
