WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN THE MARKET?
The Yùke Arts Market is dedicated to supporting Indigenous, Inuit and Métis artists by celebrating Indigenous art, honouring cultural knowledge, and creating meaningful opportunities for artistic growth, income generation, and professional development.
To uphold this mandate and ensure that participation aligns with the purpose of the market, all artists identifying as Indigenous, Inuit or Métis are required to provide appropriate documentation or a community reference to verify their connection to their Nation or Indigenous community.
We recognize that identity, cultural belonging, and community connections are personal. This verification process is approached with respect, care, and an understanding of these complexities.
Acceptable Forms of Verification
Artists may provide one of the following forms of verification, where applicable:
- First Nation citizenship or membership documentation, such as a status card, citizenship card, or letter confirming membership or citizenship issued by a First Nation.
- Inuit identity or enrolment documentation, such as documentation confirming enrolment with an Inuit land claim organization or recognition by an Inuit community.
- Métis citizenship or membership documentation issued by a recognized Métis government or organization.
- A community reference letter from a First Nation government, Inuit or Métis organization, or other appropriate Indigenous community authority confirming the artist’s connection.
Supporting Indigenous artists means recognizing and valuing the generations of knowledge, cultural teachings, skills, and community relationships that inform their artistic practices. The Yùke Arts Market provides a platform for artists to earn income, share their stories, strengthen their professional practice, and carry cultural knowledge forward for future generations.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation, and for your interest in participating in the Yùke Arts Market, taking place December 4-19, 2026.
HOW WILL IT WORK?
Step 1. Registration
Artists who wish to participate are asked to complete a simple online registration form HERE by November 6.
Step 2. Inventory
Start creating! Keep in mind that tree ornaments, earrings, moccasins, mittens, hats, headbands, keychains, lanyards, patches, baby attire, medallions, men’s accessories, art prints and granny hanky anything sold really well in the past. It is also a good idea to have items with a variety of price points such as earrings as well as moccasins, lanyards as well as vests, or statement pieces as well as card holders, etc.
Step 3. Delivery of Artwork
After a gentle jurying process, selected artists will be asked to deliver artwork to the Ghátsetsi Gallery, located at 102 Lambert Street, beginning on November 18 through November 27. Once artists are selected, they will be asked to bring in your work between 10am and 2pm, Monday through Friday by appointment only. Artists living and working outside of Whitehorse will receive a subsidy for shipping your work to and from Whitehorse.
Step 4. Sales and Payment
Artists will be paid for their sales one time only at the end of the market. Please remember that we take a 30% commission on the artwork that sells. The commission covers only a very small portion of the expenses involved in hosting the market. Cheques will be provided at your de-inventory appointments.
Step 5. Retrieving unsold artwork
Artists will be asked to come to the Ghátsetsi Gallery between the dates of December 20 and 21 to pick up any unsold items. Artists living outside of Whitehorse can anticipate their work being mailed back during this time or other arrangements can be made for pick-up.
Lastly
NCES and YFNCT are here for you if you require assistance pricing your work or have any questions. Feel free to reach out anytime.
